Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan today received the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Peter Svitalski. The meeting focused on Armenia-EU educational cooperation programs.

The EU Ambassador expressed his concern over a post published on Facebook, which user is registered as a teacher. The Minister noted that the fuss over the family portrait of a black man and an Armenian woman concerned him too. In this regard, the Minister recently sent a letter to Yerevan Mayor with a proposal to form a working group to study the pedagogical activity and, if necessary, impose a disciplinary sanction against the mentioned teacher. At the same time, L. Mkrtchyan stressed that Armenia's educational policy is based on humanism, tolerance, inclusiveness and universal values. “The story deeply concerned me not only for the fact, that the author of the post is a teacher. The Republic of Armenia is a democratic country where the constitution condemns racism, xenophobia and discrimination. Tolerance is a typical feature of the Armenian people, which provides a sustainable livelihood of the Armenian Diaspora in numerous countries. We should respect others to be able to expect the same from them, "the Minister noted in his speech.

During the meeting parties also touched upon a number of current issues.
