Ensuring continuity of reforms as a key priority

Minister of Education and Science of RA Levon Mkrtchyan received Head of Cooperation Section of EU Delegation Hoa-Binh Adjemian. During the meeting the parties discussed the EU assistance key directions and priorities in the education sector. Minister L. Mkrtchyan expressed gratitude for the EU support in education reform process and highlighted two main areas the efforts should be focused on, namely higher education and quality increase in the general education.

Minister noted that the pressing issues remained the establishment of the research cluster in the higher education sector, and in general education system - curricular amendments and reinforcement of rural schools. Curricular update, teachers’ training, textbook development and the improvement of content, which implies a number of system changes were identified among the issues in the general education sector. In this respect, reference was made to amend the National Institute of Education. According to the Minister, the development and enhancement of rural small schools is a priority of the RA Government and the stress should be put on promoting distance learning, fostering education in natural sciences, mathematics and technologies. The Minister also mentioned that ensuring the continuity of reforms is central and before launching any kind of reform, this condition is to be considered.
