Armenian Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan today received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia, Judith Margaret Farnworth, and British Council Armenia Office Director Arevik Saribekyan.
Minister Mkrtchyan welcomed the guests and emphasized the role of the activities undertaken by the Embassy and the British Council in Armenia, underlining the targeted projects in the education system. Touching upon the reforms in the education system, Levon Mkrtchyan noted that development of foreign language teaching concept was underway. In this context, Minister attached great importance to establishment of schools specializing in English, teachers’ trainings, fostering of practical steps aimed at dissemination and advancement of English.
At the meeting Minister Mkrtchyan introduced the main directions of the education reforms, underlining a number of issues related to the education system, curriculum, student mobility in the RA higher education institutions, establishment of untouchable funds at the universities, etc.
Ambassador Farnworth, on her part, thanked the Minister for the cooperation in the education sector and expressed confidence, that the Embassy would take an active part in enhancing cooperation at different levels of the education system and implementing targeted projects.
The parties discussed a range of issues related to the further cooperation.
