Augmented Reality (AR) technologies have opened up an entire world of possibilities for teachers and educators. From organizing virtual field trips to setting up simulated virtual laboratories, AR is reshaping teaching and learning in unprecedented ways. In today's post, we are sharing with you three applications that leverage the power of AR technologies for educational purposes. You may want to check them out and share with us your feedback on social media platforms.
1- Google Spotlight Stories
This is app we reviewed yesterday. "Google Spotlight Stories is a wonderful application that combines the power of storytelling with the technology of virtual reality. It's a project designed by artists and technologists that aims at exploring the art of narrative storytelling in the light of the affordances provided by emerging technologies. Using Google Spotlight Stories will enable students to get immersed in a VR world where they watch and explore immersive stories in 360. These stories can be experienced with a VR headset (e.g. Daydream and Cardboard) or on the screen of your their devices. Headphones can make the viewing experience even better."
2- Waypoint EDU
"Waypoint EDU is a fun, educational augmented-reality scavenger hunt game for classrooms and families. Teachers (or parents) use Waypoint EDU to create engaging augmented reality geocaches (“Hunts”). Setting up a Hunt is very simple – enter a few details, draw a Playfield directly on the map, and enter quiz questions for your curriculum. Teachers can transfer Hunts to student devices using AirDrop. A game of Waypoint EDU is a great reason for teachers to take their classes outside. Includes two sample Hunts. Students can learn about ancient wonders of the world like Stonehenge and the Pyramid of Giza and groundbreaking inventions like the telephone and the lightbulb via scale-model AR."
3- 3D Bear AR
"This easy-to-use education app provides you and your students the opportunity to design and create in augmented reality. Why use 3DBear AR in your classroom?:
1. Students will have a more active role in their learning process.
2. Creating in augmented reality is a perfect opportunity for learners of all strengths and ability levels.
3. Rather than giving answers, children have the ability to explore, create and learn independently while applying Inquiry-Based Learning principles.
4. Incorporate 21st Century skills like creative problem-solving, project-based learning and collaboration into your teaching and learning."
