Today, international conference on "Armenia as a regional educational center" was held at Yerevan Northern University dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of the foundation of Sanahin University. Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan attended the event and welcomed the administration of the University for celebrating the 1050th Anniversary of one of the finest medieval universities.Minister mentioned in his speech that Armenians, adopting Christianity, were able to shape their individual attitude, to create a unique alphabet, which is used at present, to form a series of medieval universities that stood in line with all the world’s best education institutions of that time. “Currently we are obliged to have international projects and innovations, so as to be integrated into a large network, but we have to remember our history that goes back thousands of years and to succeed in shaping an education environment of our own”, noted L. Mkrtchyan. He also added that such kind of conferences play an essential role as they have cognitive significance both for students and society.
Speeches and reports made during the conference mainly referred to the reforms conducted in higher education sector and modern tendencies, interpretations of medieval Armenian literature, teaching principles of medieval Armenian educational system, etc.
