Today, a press conference was held at Armenia Mariott Hotel in Yerevan, dedicated to the kick-off of the new phase of GIZ “Private Sector Development and Technical Vocational Education and Training in South Caucasus” (PSD TVET) programme. The press conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Manuk Mkrtchyan, Wilhelm Hugo,Team Leader Armenia of the GIZ PSD TVET, Katja Kammerer, Programme Director of GIZ PSD TVET and Deputy Head of SME Support and Development Department of RA Ministry of Economic Development and Investments, Gayane Gevorgyan.
The press conference focused on the announcement of the kick-off of the new, 3-year phase of the PSD TVET programme, presentation of the programme’s main goals, as well as cooperation with partner ministries, which are the Ministry of Education and Science of RA and the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of RA.
RA Deputy Minister of Education and Science Manuk Mkrtchyan expressed gratitude for the productive cooperation with GIZ, adding, that it is envisaged to establish dual vocational education system which hasn’t been piloted in Armenia so far. This programme will enable the students to study at the education institution and to work at any production at the same time.
“In Armenia, the PSD TVET programme will support the green and inclusive growth of three target sectors: sustainable tourism, wine sector and precision engineering/IT sector. We will improve the vocational training in Armenia and strengthen the cooperation between public institutions and business. Skills for Business – Business for Skills: Technical Vocational Education and Training for Economic Development!”, noted Wilhelm Hugo presenting the programme’s goals and intervention fields particularly in Armenia.
“We are happy to continue the good work with our partners in Armenia and on the regional level in the coming 3 years and aim at helping to improve the framework conditions for sustainable economic development in selected sectors relevant for employment”, noted Katja Kammerer, Programme Director of GIZ PSD TVET in her speech.
